Cheticamp hooked rug hookers have set the standard of high quality rug hooking worldwide. The history of rug hooking is deeply ingrained into Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island making Cheticamp the rug hooking capital of the world. All the rug hooking designs are hand draw and are handmade with high quality burlap. The yarn is made of natural sheep’s wool that is dyed by hand locally. Using sheep’s wool ensures the durability and longevity of the rug hooking.
Close to 75 men and women hook, more so from fall to spring, in order to assure an ample supply of hookings for the tourist season. Most of the creations incorporate pastel colours and shaded flowers, bordered with green leaves. However, more often we are creating custom rug hookings with sceneries, portraits, and rugs made to very precise specifications.
