Cheticamp Hooked Rugs - Coopérative Artisanale

The Cheticamp Hooked Rugs Coopérative Artisanale was incorporated in 1963 in Cheticamp, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, by a group of cooperative-minded individuals wishing to assure the survival of the rug hooking industry by buying and selling these artistic handmade rug creations.  About 1000 ft from l'Église Saint-Pierre, and next to the Cheticamp Co-op, you will find the Cheticamp Hooked Rugs Coopérative Artisanale, a gift shop/museum/restaurant.  This particular co-op specializes in the wholesale and retail of handmade hooked area rugs, handmade hooked wall-hangings, doilies, coasters, etc. The art of Rug Hooking has its own style and designs. Most of the handmade rugs incorporate pastel colours and shaded flowers, bordered with green leaves. However, more and more, we find hooked rugs featuring sceneries, portraits, and custom rugs made to very precise specifications.
